Yang Zi Ends Contract With Her Management Agency

Reaching the end of her contract, Yang Zi (杨紫) decided to part ways with Huanrui Century Pictures (H&R). Wrapping up filming Immortal Samsara <沉香如屑> in late October, the actress has finalized all her jobs received by H&R.

Announcing her departure from the agency, Yang Zi wrote on Weibo, “Thank you, H&R family, for your support and company during these past six years. Although I will be moving forward alone in the future, I will continue to work hard and strive towards my passion more firmly and courageously than ever.”

In response, H&R sent their best wishes to the actress, “It was wonderful to experience and witness your growth and achievements together. We sincerely wish Yang Zi to continue shining brightly towards a brilliant future.”

The announcement did not come as a surprise, as there were earlier rumors that the actress and H&R are no longer affiliated. The company’s silence upon Yang Zi’s 29th birthday on November 6 only reinforced the speculations.

During the contract period with H&R, Yang Zi’s career rose to new heights to become one of the most popular actresses in the industry. While many acknowledge the company for their promotional efforts, they also believe Yang Zi made the right decision on not renewing as it was time for a change in her career direction.

In addition, Yang Zi reportedly did not accept filming historical idol drama Immortal Samsara voluntarily, and was pressured by H&R because of their investment in the production. As such, many considered the series as Yang Zi’s “break up gift” for the agency.
