Prince Harry Admits He Was ‘Probably Bigoted’ Before Falling in Love with Meghan Markle
Prince Harry is opening up about the prejudices that he once held before his relationship with now-wife Meghan Markle.
The 38-year-old Duchess of Sussex promoted his book with an interview on 60 Minutes, which will air on Sunday night (January 8).
Harry talked to journalist Anderson Cooper about the way Meghan was treated by the British press in comparison to other women that were welcomed into the royal family, like Kate Middleton and Camilla Parker Bowles.
In the interview, Harry admitted he was “probably bigoted” before falling in love with Meghan.
“What Meghan had to go through was similar in some part to what [Princess] Kate and what Camilla, [Queen Consort,] went through – very different circumstances,” Harry said. “But then you add in the race element, which was what the press– British press jumped on straight away. I went into this incredibly naïve. I had no idea the British press were so bigoted. Hell, I was probably bigoted before the relationship with Meghan.”
Anderson responded, “You think you were bigoted before the relationship with Meghan?”
Harry replied, “I don’t know. Put it this way, I didn’t see what I now see.”
The interview was given to promote Harry‘s new book “Spare,” which will be released on Tuesday.
