Netflix’s ‘Queen Cleopatra’ Receives Just A 1% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes
Controversy over Netflix‘s Queen Cleopatra seems to have affected its’ audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Part of the African Queens documentary series, the show centered on the infamous Egyptian royal, and re-assessed her fascinating story, her political brilliance, as well as questions surrounding her heritage, which remains the subject of debate.
Just four days following the debut on the streamer, Queen Cleopatra has been given just a 1% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While that’s not necessarily a rare occurrence, it is important to note that the fans are agreeing with critics on the show.
Forbes reported that this is the lowest score possibly ever documented.
“Fans usually rate things higher than critics, even bad shows, and the point being, a 1% audience score seems borderline mathematically impossible, even with the controversy the film has attracted,” the outlet says.
The first African Queens installment which was released in February, about Njinga, earned an 88% critic score, and a 22% audience score.
While the reviews could be the result of review bombing – where people use multiple accounts to post negative user reviews online in an attempt to harm the product – it also might stem from the controversy over the portrayal of Cleopatra.
Over the past few weeks, the country of Egypt, their residents and scholars have called out Netflix about the show, and Adele James‘ casting.
Here’s how Adele, and the director have responded to the backlash.
