It has been more than two years since Marvel Studios announced that Korean actor Park Seo Joon, 34, will be joining the cast of The Marvels. He reportedly plays Prince Yan, said to be the husband of Brie Larson’s character, Captain Marvel.
However, reactions to the Itaewon Class actor’s transformation in both the trailer and the latest poster released on Monday (Oct 16) have been mixed, with comments aimed mostly at Seo Joon’s styling in the movie.
The handsome actor is nearly unrecognisable in his terrible wig that reminds us of that awful ’80s curry pok hairstyle.
Netizens quickly came out to criticise the unusual styling and said it made Seo Joon “look like an uncle” and that he “doesn’t look handsome”. One even questioned if the role needed to be played by the actor.
However, some came out to defend the casting, saying that it’s “an honour to be in a Marvel movie and hopes everyone will respect the changes made for Seo Joon to suit the role.”
Park Seo Jun is now the third Korean actor to be in a Marvel film. Claudia Kim played Dr Helen Cho in Avengers: Age of Ultron while Ma Dong Seok played Gilgamesh in The Eternals.
The Marvels opens in Singapore on Nov 9.
