No TB outbreak in Cheras, says FT health director

PETALING JAYA: The tuberculosis cases in Cheras are unrelated and do not constitute an outbreak, says Federal Territories health director Dr Nor’Aishah Abu Bakar.

She was responding to a social media post claiming that three unrelated tuberculosis cases at a local apartment complex as an outbreak zone.

“Other viral claims pertain to alleged tuberculosis cases in several Kuala Lumpur locations, including Taman Pertama, Kampung Cheras Baru and Fraser Business Park,” she said in a statement on Saturday (Nov 18).

In response, the Federal Territories health department released the actual number of cases in 2023 for those areas.

These were Taman Pertama (six cases), Kampung Cheras Baru (five) and Pudu (30).

“Importantly, none of these locations have epidemic status,” she added.

Other locations were Taman Pertama (10 cases), Kampung Cheras Baru (19), Taman Muda KL (22), Taman Lembah Maju (19), Taman Cahaya (15), Pudu (18) and Fraser Business Park (15).
