Is The New Jia Ling, Who Is 50kg Lighter Now, Not The Real Jia Ling But A Stand-In? Netizens Seem To Think So

Conspiracy theorists are having a field day looking for evidence to prove that the Jia Ling in the news now is not the real deal.

Chinese comedian and now the highest-grossing female director in the world, Jia Ling, has never been more in the spotlight than now.

Other than her amazing 50kg weight loss transformation, her latest film Yolo has grossed more than 2.8bil yuan (S$523.4mil), breaking the box office record for Lunar New Year films.

But following her first public appearance since losing weight for the movie and the much talked-about ‘Everything Comes In Time’ music video where she’s seen dueting with her previous rounder self, some netizens on Weibo are claiming that the 41-year-old is using a stand-in for her public appearances.

They have since aired their observations online saying Jia Ling used to laugh a lot and with her mouth open. Now, she just smiles more.

They also scrutinised her expressions saying she used to always look cheerful whereas she now seems more reserved.

Others pointed to her muted sense of humour in her latest interviews while she used to crack jokes all the time during conversations.

“She is not as relaxed as before and her eyes are not as lively,” wrote a netizen.

Several netizens jumped on the above statement, with one adding, “When I watch her interviews now, it’s like I am looking at another person. Her eyes, accent, and expressions, save for her iconic dimples are all different.”

Another asked. “Can weight loss really make people change so much?”

Jia Ling before she disappeared from the public eye for eight months.
Some netizens think this isn’t the real Jia Ling.

However, some felt that Jia Ling is probably her true self now.

“Now that she has lost weight, she no longer needs to be the comic relief. Instead, she is behaving like how the highest-grossing female director should behave,” said a user.

Her fans have also rubbished talk that she’s using a stand-in, claiming that with her increased popularity, she is probably more cautious in public now.

“Any wrong move she makes might smear her reputation,” said a user.
