Perak cops received 460 applications to sell fireworks, 217 approved so far

IPOH: The police have received 443 applications for permits to sell firecrackers and fireworks, says Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri (pic).

The Perak police chief said as of March 22, the police have approved 217 applications throughout the state in conjunction with the Ramadan month.

“We rejected one application because the applicant had a criminal record.

“The remaining 125 applications are still being processed,” he said in a press conference after the 217th Police Day celebration and monthly gathering at the state police contingent headquarters here on Monday (March 25).

Separately, Comm Mohd Yusri said the case whereby threatening notes were scattered in front of the house of Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming’s parents in Ayer Tawar, Manjung, was still ongoing.

He said 11 individuals have had their statements recorded but no arrest had been made.

“We’ve taken down statements from 11 people, including Nga’s parents and their neighbours in the area.

“We’ve also checked the CCTV footage from the surrounding area and from the West Coast Expressway,” he said.

“We urge those with information to come forward to help us complete the investigation,” he added.

Earlier this month, Nga’s mother had found notes which read “Nga Kor Ming Jangan Cabar Islam” (Don’t Challenge Islam) in front of her house while she was leaving the residence.

The case was being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication.

Earlier in his speech, Comm Mohd Yusri said the police would enhance and continue focusing on giving the best services to the people to maintain peace and harmony.

He also thanked the people for cooperating with the police in combating crime.
