Teacher Forces Students To Dump Phones Into Pail Of Water After They Sneaked Them Into School
It seems that simply confiscating mobile phones doesn’t cut it these days.
At a middle school in China, seven students who repeatedly brought their phones to school, despite being told countless times not to, were made to destroy them by tossing them into a pail of water.
If you think furious parents stormed the school demanding twist, they didn’t, and actually supported the teacher’s actions.
Chinese netizens echoed the parents’ sentiments with many saying the kids deserved it.
“See if they dare break the rules again,” read a comment
Since 2024, China’s Ministry of Education has banned students from bringing mobile phones to school.
However, some educational experts wonder if the punishment went too far.
Shen Yonghui, a lecturer at the School of Education at Capital Normal University told the media that the act raises both legal and educational concerns.
“From a legal standpoint, mobile phones are private property. Teachers don’t have the right to destroy or force students to destroy their personal belongings,” he said.
But technically it isn’t theirs to begin with since these phones were bought by their folks, right?
Yonghui added that the incident raises questions about intent and if the action was for discipline or the teacher’s emotional outburst?
“Forcing students to destroy their phones in front of others can be extremely humiliating, and they may act out or even hurt themselves out of embarrassment,” warned Yonghui.
“It may also lead to resentment toward school, teachers, and learning in general, making them even harder to manage,” he added.
