A Circus Within A Carnival? It’s Happening For The First Time In Singapore Soon

You know Uncle Ringo. Your parents, and, surely, your kids know Uncle Ringo. No, he’s not the relative that you look forward to seeing at family gatherings, though Uncle Ringo sparks joy for folks with their travelling carnivals all around Singapore, replete with old-school amusement rides and games all over our little red dot since 1984. But the local veteran carnival organiser has been upping their game and has brought these travelling funfairs to hip events like iLight at Marina Bay, and most recently, the largest Christmas fair on Orchard Road.

From Dec 20 to Jan 1, the fair operator will bring in the Great Circus of Europe to our shores for the first time. The thrilling circus extravaganza will see performers from the UK and Romania to Kenya and Kazakhstan perform exhilarating stunts under the Big Top at the Bayfront Event Space. It’ll also be the first circus within a carnival in Singapore, with the organisers’ signature carnival rides and game stalls held at the same time.

What can you expect from each 90-min show? For starters, what about some heart-stopping acrobatic action in the Double Space Wheel, where daredevil performers prance around two giant rotating arms (main pic)? The Thunderdome (above), a crowd favourite, will have performers racing inside a massive giant mesh globe at 45 miles per hour.

Hanging by threads to perform aerial ballet, or twisting yourself like a pretzel and still look cool? All in a day’s work for the folks at the Great Circus of Europe.

There’ll be tons of action surrounding the Big Top as well, in the form of carnival games, rides and a food street. Admission to the carnival is free; separate charges for rides apply. Tickets to the Great Circus of Europe start at $70.

The Great Circus of Europe is on Dec 20 to Jan 1, 2020, at Bayfront Event Space (next to Marina Bay Sands). Tix and more info at http://bit.ly/ringo-sg.
