Michael B. Jordan Issues Apology Over His Rum Brand’s Controversial Name
Michael B. Jordan is breaking his silence.
Recently, the 34-year-old Black Panther actor came under fire for the name of his new rum brand, J’Ouvert.
Many accused Michael of cultural appropriation, since J’Ouvert is a festival that celebrates Caribbean culture. The festival is held annually in Trinidad, Tobago and Grenada during Carnival.
Nicki Minaj, who is Trinidadian, also reacted to the controversy, asking Michael to change the name of the rum.
On Tuesday night (June 22), Michael took to his Instagram Story to apologize.
“I just wanna say on behalf of myself & my partners, our intention was never to offend or hurt a culture (we love & respect) & hoped to celebrate & shine a positive light on,” Michael started. “Last few days has been a lot of listening. A lot of learning & engaging in countless community conversations…”
